Michael Keeps Cabs On The Go

WHILE many parents unwrapped presents beneath the Christmas tree early yesterday, Michael Katselos tiptoed out of his Unanderra home to go to work.

Mr Katselos worked from 7am until 3pm organising the complex web of taxis around the region.

He missed out on spending Christmas morning with his 20-month-old daughter, Ava.

``She was still asleep when I left," he said.

Mr Katselos, 32, has been a base operator for Wollongong Radio Cabs for five years - and he has worked almost every Christmas.

He said Christmas Day was fairly relaxed, particularly after Christmas Eve, which is one of the busiest nights of the year alongside New Year's Eve and Melbourne Cup Day.

By 11am yesterday, 90 of the city's 131 cabs were on the road - and the calls were flooding in.

But back in the Crown St office it was like any other day.

When he finished work Mr Katselos got into the spirit of the day and joined his in-laws for a late Christmas lunch.
