Taxis Not Taking Radio Bookings
Sydney Morning Herald
Tuesday May 25, 2004
Some Sydney taxi drivers will not accept radio bookings today and will only pick up passengers who hail cabs to protest against the NSW Government's no-destination policy. The Transport Services Minister, Michael Costa, introduced the policy, in which drivers do not know the passenger's destination until they are in the cab, to stop taxis ignoring short or inconvenient trips. But the policy has angered taxi drivers, prompting hundreds to form the Taxi Action Group. It is planning another no-radio day next week and is considering a no-taxi day next month if Mr Costa does not listen to their complaints.
