Clearly, Screen Test Is A Comfort Zone

FOR nine years now, Harminder Malhi has driven cabs, and for the past month he has been testing the new safety screens.
He works only day shifts but reckons the screens, fitted into eight cabs in the metropolitan fleet, will improve safety for drivers at night. His only concern is that the screens, which cost around $1400, are not thick enough, and it is sometimes difficult to talk to a passenger in the back. But the public has been positive. Mr Malhi believes the State Government should subsidise some of the cost. "Every taxi driver would have one if the cost was cheaper or shared," he said.
